Oregon Statewide Service Hosting VR Summit

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

The Oregon statewide reference service is hosting the Oregon Virtual Reference Summit in late May, open to all interested.

Here is the announcement:

I’m the coordinator for Oregon’s statewide reference service and I am inviting you to register for our annual conference, the Oregon Virtual Reference Summit, www.oregonlibraries.net/summit.¬†Though we admit to a regional focus, the conference is open to everyone.

This year’s summit will be held May 25th at the lovely Salishan Inn & Resort on the Oregon Coast at Gleneden Beach.

Our keynote speaker this year will be Joe Janes from the University of Washington’s iSchool, who you may be familiar with, being involved with Collaborative Virtual Reference yourselves.

Also featured will be Meredith Farkas from Portland State University discussing “Embedding Virtual Reference and Instruction at the User’s Point of Need” and Rachel Bridgewater from Portland Community College, discussing legal aspects of sharing information online.

My favorite part of the conference is always the lightning talks, where about 12 people talk for 5 minutes each. Past talks are online at http://www.oregonlibraries.net/videos?category=61159. If you come, I would love to hear you talk for 5 minutes.

Registration is $50, though a limited number of scholarships are available. We have a block of rooms for Thursday night, May 24th at the conference hotel, for the discounted rate of $84.

I hope to see you!
